The Story of Young’s Landscaping
As Young’s Landscaping closes out 2025, we look back with gratitude and pride at how far we’ve come in just a few short years. Our story began in 2020 with a 16-year-old kid, a borrowed mower, and a determination to work hard for anyone willing to give him a chance.
Where It All Started (2020)
In 2020, Ross began taking on small jobs for family, neighbors, and friends—often using his father’s mower, tractor, and tools. Without a driver’s license, he relied on supportive parents who believed in his ambition and allowed him to take the equipment wherever it needed to go. What started as a simple summer hustle quickly turned into something more.
Once Ross earned his license, he learned how expensive fuel and equipment could be. Determined to grow, he and a close friend spent countless hours distributing flyers across Huntington and Fort Wayne—if you lived in those areas, chances are one landed at your door.
That same year, Ross received an unexpected call from a retired Fort Wayne police officer looking to sell his small mowing business, equipment and all. After talking it through with his father—his accountant and biggest supporter—Ross took a leap of faith, borrowing money from his parents to purchase the little operation. It was a major step for a 16-year-old, but with family support and a relentless work ethic, he paid it off quickly and kept building.
2021 became the year Ross learned the fundamentals of landscaping: trimming, maintenance, installations, and how to stay afloat when the workload became overwhelming. He’s still grateful to every family member and friend who stepped in when he needed an extra pair of hands.
Taking Big Steps Forward (2022)
As 2022 approached, Ross invested in larger equipment and began seeing a steady increase in customers. Word of mouth spread faster than he ever imagined—so fast, in fact, that he convinced his concerned parents to let him graduate high school a year early to keep up with demand.
Ross worked every free moment: after school, weekends, holidays—whenever he could. With growth came the need for reliable help, and Ross hired his first full-time employee, Joe, who is now the Landscaping Project Manager. Together, they worked day and night handling every job they could manage. Joe played a major role in Young’s Landscaping’s growth that year.
Finding Direction & Expanding Services (2023)
After exploring electrical work during the winter of 2022, Ross realized his passion remained in landscaping. By spring 2023, the phone was ringing nonstop. Even with equipment setbacks—including a fire that forced the purchase of new machines—Ross and Joe kept pushing.
Demand was high, so Ross brought on Tyler, now the Mowing Foreman. With a solid team forming, Young’s Landscaping began shifting from a “high-school summer job” into a true business. Ross focused on delivering top-tier quality, unmatched attention to detail, and strong customer relationships—values still central to the company today.
2023 was also the year Young’s Landscaping entered the hardscaping world. Ross hired Nathaniel, now the Hardscape Foreman, and together they installed numerous small patios. Some early mistakes became valuable lessons, and the company is forever grateful to the customers who trusted them, allowed them to make things right, and helped shape the high standards they uphold now.
2023 became a defining year—one that strengthened the company’s identity and future.
A Year of Major Growth (2024)
In 2024, Young’s Landscaping expanded from three employees to five, with the additions of Brayden and Caleb—both strong assets to the team. Ross also made significant investments in new equipment, including a skid steer, mowers, an excavator, and additional trucks. These upgrades allowed the company to take on more complex projects and better serve a rapidly growing customer base.
Part-time team members, such as Kameron (now part of the ICE program for 2025), contributed to an incredibly productive season. Young’s Landscaping began to establish a presence throughout the community, becoming a familiar name known for quality work and dependable service.
From full landscape designs to retaining walls, patios, and new construction projects—2024 set a new standard for what the company could achieve.
A Breakout Year (2025)
2025 exceeded every expectation. With three full crews—maintenance, landscaping, and hardscaping—the company handled more work than ever before. The maintenance team ensured clients had some of the best-looking properties in town, while the landscaping and hardscaping crews delivered high-quality projects that showcased the company’s craftsmanship and commitment to excellence.
More equipment was added, more systems were developed, and more milestones were reached. Ross is incredibly proud of the team—young, hardworking, and determined to prove that age is only a number. Every project is completed with full effort, and every challenge is met with problem-solving and dedication to the customer’s needs.
Young’s Landscaping is deeply thankful for every customer, referral, review, shared Facebook post, and kind word that helped the business grow. Community support has been the backbone of this journey, and Ross looks forward to continuing to serve the area with integrity, quality, and passion.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we move into 2026, we are excited for what’s ahead. Young’s Landscaping will continue to grow, improve, and deliver exceptional service to every customer—new and returning. With a dedicated team and a commitment to excellence, the future has never looked brighter.
Thank you for being a part of our story.
